Best time to sail Komodo on a Lamborajo, month by month

Updated 20 October 2026

April to June and October to November bring the calmest water. July and August are windy and the busiest months. January and February are the wettest and roughest, and crowds are thinnest from January to March. The Lamborajo price list of 4 May 2026 has no season column, so the month changes the sea, not the listed fare.

Twelve months, one price list

The table gives each month its sea state, visibility, manta odds and crowd level. It is general operator knowledge for Komodo National Park, not a measurement, and it describes the water, not any one boat.

The Lamborajo price list prints one price per head-count band and duration, with no season column. A January sailing and an August sailing carry the same listed fare. What differs is the water under the hull and the number of boats at Padar.

Open trips leave on Mondays and Fridays all year on all three boats. The month never decides which boat sails.

Sunrise at Padar: when the climb starts

On a private 3D2N, day 2 opens with the Padar trek, before sunrise. Sunrise at Padar falls between 05:31 and 06:18 over the year, and guests leave the boat about 65 minutes ahead of it.

So the start time slides with the calendar. The table lists each month, and the captain sets the hour on the day.

The open trip reaches Padar late on day 1. For that version the sunrise table does not apply.

Sunset at Kalong: when the bats leave

Kalong closes day 1 of the private route and day 2 of the open trip. Sunset there falls between 17:49 and 18:27 depending on the month, and the flying foxes leave the mangroves about 15 minutes after the sun goes down.

The table lists each month. The boat needs to be in position before sunset, so your travel date moves the hour of the last stop.

School holidays and company year-ends

July and August are the peak crowd months, and late December is busy with holiday travelers. For those dates, book the boat and cabin earlier. The open-trip calendar is the same all year, so what sells out is a particular Monday or Friday, not a whole month.

For a company trip at year-end, December brings the first wet-season weather, moderate seas and the return of the mantas. A whole-boat charter for 12 to 20 colleagues is priced from the same list, by head-count band, with the invoice to the company.

Dates in 2027 are open, and 2027 rates are on request. The price list in force applies until the 2027 list is issued; if it changes before your balance is due, we tell you first and you can cancel without charge.

Wet months and the choice of cabin deck

January and February bring the roughest water of the year, and some guests ask which Lamborajo, and which deck, rides best then. We have no sea-state data for any of the three boats, so we do not claim that one rides better than another.

What the cards do print is the layout. Lamborajo 2 and 3 have their Superior cabins on the lower deck and their Master cabins higher up, on the main or upper deck. Lamborajo 1 has its Share Cabins and Full Ocean on the main deck and its two Master Ocean cabins on the upper deck.

If sea motion worries you, say so in your first message. The written reply names the cabin we would pick.

Which months suit which trip

For snorkeling and treks, the calm, clear months of April to June and October to November give the most predictable days. For mantas, December to February and July to September are the strongest months, with rougher water as the price.

For the fewest people at Pink Beach and Padar, go between January and March or in November. No month rules out a change of route: quota, tide and weather decide the order on the day.

FAQ

What are the best months to sail Komodo?

April to June and October to November for calm, clear water; July to September if mantas matter more than a smooth sea.

Does the Lamborajo price change with the season?

No. The 4 May 2026 price list prints one price per band and duration, with no season column. Dates beyond that list are quoted in writing.

Do the open trips run in the wet months?

Yes. The Monday and Friday sailings run all year on Lamborajo 1, 2 and 3. Expect rougher seas from December to March, worst in January and February.

Is seasickness a bigger risk on one Lamborajo?

We have no sea-state figures for any of the three boats, so we do not rank them. If motion worries you, say so when you write and we name the cabin we would choose.

Will rain cancel a Lamborajo trip?

Showers alone do not cancel a sailing. If the harbor master or the park closes the route, the replacement guarantee applies: a phinisi of the same class or higher on the same dates, or a full refund within 14 days.
